WEEKLY JOURNAL

The part of my Job I will miss the most is the people, I have met so many great people that have helped me and guided me through so much. Not just the teachers I have helped but others through out the school, also office people. I have really enjoyed my time here and will miss the students I have met. They were so great with me and had so much respect for me since I had respect with them. I have nothing negative to say about my experience and will remember my time spent there. I now know 100% that I want to pursue this job as my full time career.

The teachers that I helped made it fun and enjoyable to work there. Saying goodbye was hard since I loved going there and getting to know the kids better. I hope that I will be like the teachers I have helped when I get older since they have such great experience and knowledge while dealing with the students. This experience will help me so much in the future because it has given me much more confidence. I have learnt things there that other wise I would have had no clue about. Looking back on my co-op experience I feel more confident that I could make it as a teacher in the future.

Thursday June 14 2007

I was sad that today was my last day at co-op; I now realize how much I really enjoyed myself at the placement. My last day went by very fast beginning with my first task, which was cutting out 48 grad hats. I traced the hats onto blue paper. Once I was done I had to staple the hats to strips of black paper which will be used for the part that wraps around their heads. Once I was done that I had to start cutting out the students pictures from the morning and afternoon. This took me awhile because I took my time to make sure I didn’t cut the actual picture. Then I glued the back of the picture and stuck it to the grad hat, in the end the grad hats looked really good!

My next task took me awhile; I had to mark 5 pages out of each student spelling books. Before I knew it, it was snack time and I got ready to give Mrs. MacDonald the gift I had bought her. Mrs. MacDonald made a speech in front of her class thanking me for all my hard work through out the semester, and then handed me a gift which was unnecessary but I was very thankful. After the break the other two class rooms I help out called me over and to my surprise they were all in one room and had a little presentation for me thanking me again for all my work. This put me in a good mood because it mad me happy knowing how much I have helped them and how much they appreciate it. For the rest of the afternoon the students were outside playing and I went out their with them to help watch with Mrs. MacDonald.

Wednesday June 13 2007

Today I was in the other Jk classroom; my first task was to organize a big messy pile of work. There were different things like craft ideas, work that has been done and kept for examples and also student information. So It was my job to organize it and file it were it belongs. It took me awhile since I made sure I was filing it properly. I made 3 piles, one was for art the students have done and kept for examples, the other one was student information, and the third was ideas for future arts.

After I was done all this I helped the class with their work, they were making number booklets and many of them were getting confused with the order in which they go. So I went around and helped them organize the book. After all of them finished I went around and stapled there booklets together.

The students were having play time while I started my next project. I had to attach paperclips to the ends of strings for a project they will be doing tomorrow. After the break I made my way back to Mrs. MacDonald’s room, there the class was watching a movie and I had to start taking down bulletin boards. I started with the dinosaur board, next I moved to the butterfly display. Once I was done all this I cleaned the tables and stacked the chairs.

Tuesday June 12 2007

Today I was with the next door Jk class, since there was a lot to get done. First I had to cut out the student’s school pictures nicely and glue it on the handprint. Last week I made Handprints with them, I had to trace their hand then cut it out and glue it and dunk it in sparkles. I had to put a lot of glue on the back of the picture to make sure it stayed since it doesn’t always stick because of the sparkles. Once I was done this I had to cut these flat magnets into strips and stick them onto the back of these clothes pins. At the end I had to glue the clothespin onto the back of the hand so that they could clip their handprint onto whatever they wanted.

Once I was done all this I had to start their Fathers day cards. Last week I had to cut 48 paper ties and 48 paper pockets, so this week I got to use them. First I had to fold the cut pieces to make a collar, and then I glued the paper tie underneath the collar. Once I was done that I had to make little tissues to glue on the back of the pocket that I glued at the top right of the card. Once I was done all that the students had to come and write their names on the back of the card.

After the break I was still in the same class room I did not go to Mrs. MacDonald’s room. The teacher had to do some report card testing with the student’s one at a time so I had to watch over the class. It went well, we played bingo and they all had fun.

Monday June 11 2007

Today my first job was to just separate papers for the art center there were a lot to go through but I finished on time, just before the students arrived. Some of the students were away last week when we did all of our Fathers day crafts, so since Fathers day is on the weekend I had to get them done. So right when they got in I started to call them over and finish.

The students had a hard task to do today so I got to go around and help them since many needed my help. They had to write three sentences in their Writing books about what they like to do in the summer. I also had to help one of the students who were away all last week catch up on the pages he missed in his writing book. At the end of the day since I had ten minutes I made sure the tables were washed and the chairs were stacked.

Friday June 8 2007

My first task today was to write starter letters for the students in there writing books, I had to write in capital letters F, J and I. F on the first line then J on the next and I on the last. To help them spell out Fathers day is June 17. I love my Dad. I had to write this out in each student’s book for the morning and afternoon. After, they had to draw a picture of themselves with their Dad.

Once I finished doing this the class was ready to start, I went around the class room and helped them with their spelling, most of them knew what they were doing so I could start my next task which was preparing there end of the year booklets. I had to take down pictures they colored of themselves at the beginning of the year down from the wall, then I had to match it with there booklets and tape the picture on the front page.

After I was done I had to go into the hall and take down a bulletin board, that had a bunch of there work on it. We had to take it down since it’s the end of the year and the school wants them to be clean.

Before the end of the day I made sure the tables and classroom was clean I washed down the tables and stacked the chairs.

Thursday June 7 2007

My first task today was to staple blank pieces of paper into a work book that the students will be finishing at the end of the week. The book consists of a picture they drew on the first day of senior kindergarten, the picture was stamped with the date they drew it. Friday they are going to color another picture to show how much they have improved through out the year. I had to do this for the morning and afternoon Class.

The students work today was a bit complicated so they needed lots of help, so it was my job to go and help the students that needed it. They had a sheet of 10 different words and they needed to come up with words that rhymed with them.

Before break time I took all the work out of the morning bucket and marked everything, it took me awhile but I did finish before break.

All week the students have been making things for their Fathers for Fathers day. It was my job to take all their work and group it and make a scroll for each student. I rolled it up then tied a ribbon around the work, I had to make sure I put there name on the outside so we knew who to give it to.

Wednesday June 6 2007

I was absent today!

Tuesday June 5 2007

Today I was in the Jk class room; before the students arrived I had to cut out 18 paper ties and 18 paper pockets for the classes Fathers day cards. I finished just on time and the students made their way in, right away I had to start the day’s projects. The first one was big I had to trace one by one everyone’s hand. Then I had to cut them out, this took me awhile since I wanted to do a good job and wanted them to look neat. After I was done all this I called them one by one again, I dropped glue on the hand and it was their job to take the paint brush and smear it all over the hand. Once they did this we had to dunk the hand in a box of sparkles. I had enough time to finish the whole class’s hands.

After the break I found out Mrs. MacDonald was not here so I read the note she left behind, I had to cut out 48 frog feet for a project the morning class has to do. After I was done I cleaned down the tables and stacked the chairs. The rest of the class was watching a movie so I joined them until the day was over. I also helped the supply with getting the class ready to leave for home time.

Monday June 4 2007

Today when i first arrived Mrs. MacDonald introduced me to a new helper she will have every Monday's and Thursday's, once we met she explained my first task. Before the students got in we both had to cut up pieces that the class will need for a new art. I had to cut up 48 frog feet for the morning class. I finished just on time and the class came in. I had to start my next task right away, it was helping catch up a student who went away for a week. I had to help him with all the work he missed.

After i was done that i started my major project which was a Father's day interview. One by one i had to fill out a sheet about the students father's. I had fun doing it because some of the answers were very funny. Some of the question that were asked was;My father is___tall, My father's favorite drink is_____, My dads favorite tv show is____. Non of the students knew how tall their father was so many of the answers were like 100 feet tall or 3 feet tall. i finished the whole classes interview sheet.

After the break i still had 3 more sheets to finish,i had time to help some of the students with their seat work they did not finish from before, by the time we were done i had enough time to clean down the tables and stack the chairs.

WEEKLY JOURNAL

In the last month I feel like I have contributed the most, and feel the most appreciated. Since it is the end of the school year the teachers have so much to do and get done like report cards testing and so on. Sometimes it is too much and they have to skip certain work they wanted to do just because they do not have enough time. Since I was there I got to help the teachers out a lot and get things done that they did not have time to do by them selves. They have also showed me that they appreciate me more than ever and have told me that they will miss having me around which means a lot and makes me feel that I have done my best to do what they needed me to do.

You can tell that a lot of the teachers working there love what they do because they have so much fun with their job and really enjoying working with the students. Which is good since that is also what I love about it.

Friday June 30 2007

Today my first task was to mark some work they had done the day before. All week they have been learning about time and learning how to tell time, so they had done a lot of work dealing with it so I had to mark all of it. One of the work sheets was picture of 6 clocks and they all had different times and beside the clock they had to write down what time it was. When I was done marking all of their work I put stickers on all papers.

Since father’s day is approaching Mrs. MacDonald thought it was a good idea to start their projects for their dads. Mrs. MacDonald glued there school picture onto a foam door hanger and had written “#1 dad” at the top. So at the back they had to glue on foam pieces to decorate it. There were different animals and hearts they got to choose from. I called one at a time and by snack time I finished the whole class’s door hangers, except for the students who were away.

Today was cookie and milk day so like always I went around opened the milks and gave them all straws. After break I had to put a pin through the clocks they made. I had to pierce the middle of the clock and pin the minute hand and second hand. They were excited that I finished so that they could take them home at the end of the day.

Thursday May 31 2007

When I first got there, there were 2 baskets for me to mark, morning class and afternoons work. There was a lot of work that needed to be marked. Some of the work just needed to have stickers put on. The work that took me the longest was the 3 pages in there writing books. After I was done I had to take 2 students down to the library to finish off the testing. One of the students had trouble with the work asked to do so I had to take him aside and show him examples so that the student could finish, in the end it was okay and the student finished on time. We had enough time before snack time to finish the last three, as we guessed they did not have enough time to finish to we had to do the rest after break.

Mrs. MacDonald was so happy and relieved that I got all the students in the class testing done; it took a lot of stress off of her since she wouldn’t have had the time and or it would not have been done properly. So it made me feel good that I helped her out so much.

Wednesday May 30 2007

Today I was in the other Jk class; the first thing the teacher wanted me to do was clean out her 3 shelves that had construction paper and work sheets on them. They were very messy and she needed them to be organized before the end of the year. I worked on this while the class did their morning routine, I also had to go to the staff room and photocopy worksheets for the class. I took out all the papers and construction paper and organized them and color coordinated the paper. So at the end the teacher really appreciated what I did because she did not have time to do it.

After I was done I had to clear out a shelf and put up new books the class just received. It was hard making space since there was so much stuff and not enough room but I made it work and fit all the books up.

I finished just before snack time and had enough time to help the students with their work. They had to cut out puzzle pieces and make the letter Y. they had a lot of troubles with this since the puzzle pieces were challenging and confusing.

After the break when I went back to Mrs. MacDonald’s room I had to choose 2 students to take down to the library to do the testing.

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Tuesday May 29 2007

Today I was in the Jk class; my first task was to stamp the date onto book orders that will be handed out this week. Then I had to staple a newsletter onto the front for the jk classes and write their names onto the front. Then for the sk class I had to staple a different newsletter and write their names on the front.

Right when the kids came in I had to start with the testing so we would have enough time to get it done, I took the first two students who did not finish last week. They finished in no time, I got through 6 students today which was a big help since the teacher would not be able to do it her selves.

After the break I went back to Mrs. MacDonald’s class and again took 2 students down for the testing papers. They finished fast so when I got back some students were still doing seat work, I got to help them.

Monday May 28 2007

Today when I arrived there were two stacks of dinosaur masks, the one stack just needed to have Popsicle sticks taped onto the back and the other stack needed the eyes to be cut out and also Popsicle sticks attached. After I was done this I had to cut out hands from a clock, the minute and second hands. I had to cut out 48 pieces enough for the morning and afternoon class. Since this week they started to learn more about time and how to tell time. I finished early so it gave me time to take 2 more students down to the library to finish the testing papers.

After the break there was a bunch of marking for me to do, so I started on that and at the end of the day helped the students get ready for home time while Mrs. MacDonald was busy dealing with a student.

WEEKLY JOURNAL

there is always room for improvment but i do believe i have what it takes to become a teacher for kindergartens or any grade in elementary school. I think my organization skills are up to standards with what teachers have to do. I also believe i have become more confident with dealing with the students.

I was assertive when one of the students was not listening to me and usually is one of the stuborn students and i did not think she would end up doing what i asked so i tried a new method and watched how Mrs. MacDonald deals with the stuednts and noticed how it works. Once i tried my new idea it ended up working and the child ended up listening. Which made me feel good since it made me feel like they do listen and im not jus there for no reason. It also helps the teacher out when i deal with small things they might not have time for.

Friday May 25 2007

Today was intergration day!

Thursday May 24 2007

Today I arrived a little bit earlier than I normally do which was good since there was tons of marking for me to do. I also had to put stickers on lots of dinosaur work they have done throughout the week. Once the students arrived we had to hurry to the library since all the kindergartens had a milk presentation today. Once we got back from library we had to hurry and do as much seatwork as we could so we were on time for the presentation.

Once it was time to go all the students who did not finish had to leave it on there desk and they could finish it after snack. We made are way to the stage and watched the presentation. They explained how milk is good for you and what was made form milk. The class loved the presentation and had many questions. It ended just on time for snack time.

After snack I took 2 students to the library and did the testing. They had to write there alphabet uppercase then lowercase beside it, example; AaBbCcDcEeFf. They finished on time and we went back to class were everyone was getting ready to go home, so I hurried and stacked the chairs and cleaned the tables down.

Wednesday May 23 2007

Today I was in the other Jk class. Today’s task was similar to the other ones I have been doing but with a new twist. This testing was not for the teacher next year it was for there report cards. She explained to the class that they would come one at a time with me and we would do the testing in the library. When we got there I explained what we would be doing. The first thing was I had to point to a chart of different numbers up to 100 and they had to identify as many as they could, then I marked down how high they could go. The next part was to identify uppercase letters; if they could identify it I would put a slash (/). Then once they were done they had to do the same with lowercase letters. Then came a part that was a bit harder, they had to make the sound each letter makes when it’s in a word. The last part was to do some reading and since they are Jk and so young some of them had lots of trouble. Then the last part was to say out loud numbers as high as they could go. I got through six students which is good because it was a lot of work and took a while.

After the break when I was with Mrs. MacDonald I helped mark work the class did today, and put stickers on some art. Then at the end of the day I stacked the chairs and helped get the students ready for home time.

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Tuesday May 22 2007

Today I was in the Jk class. The first thing I had to do was glue dinosaur heads the students colored, onto a paper plate. I also had to remember to write down there names onto the back. This did not take very long so I began on my next task before the class arrived. The next thing I had to do was write in there spelling books; I had to so starters which means the beginning letter of the sentence they have to write. So on one line I wrote a capital D then on the next I had to write a lower case b then an upper case T on the last line.

Once the students arrived I continued doing the testing which needs to be completed before report cards. I started with two students who started last week but did not finish. I completed a lot of students today and only have a couple more to do. We went to the library and there they had to write the alphabet out, then numbers as high as they could go. On the back they had to draw a picture of what ever they wanted.

After the break I was in Mrs. MacDonald’s class and there I had to do the similar task as I did in the other class. I had to glue on the dinosaur heads to the paper plates, but this job was more time consuming then the other classes. First I glued the picture to the paper plate, then I had to cut out the eye holes, after I was done this I glued a Popsicle stick on the back for a handle. I got through most of the morning and afternoon and when I went back it was home time. So I cleaned and stacked the chairs.

Thursday, May 17, 2007

Thursday May 17 2007

My first task today was to mark the dinosaur worksheets they did yesterday, I finished just on time when the students came in. I sat with the class and did morning routine. We had to hurry since it was library day and we were running out of time, we had so much to do. So we did our show and shares and made are way to the library. This took a long time since the librarian was not there we had to check out the books ourselves for the class.

When we got back to the class room we continued on doing the testing so I took 2 students down to start. They enjoyed doing the testing because they knew how to do everything. We didn’t finish before snack time so after snack when the classes got together and watched a movie I took the two boys down to the library and we finished.

When I got back there was still some time left so I washed the tables and stacked the chairs and helped the students get ready for home time.

Wednesday May 16 2007

Today I was in the other Jk class, it was an easy beginning since I got to sit with the class and listen to the morning routine. I think that is the best part especially when the teacher lets them tell their stories.

Then the teacher let the students know that they will be doing testing as well. She explained I would be taking two aside to work with and what they had to do. First they had to write their name at the top in neat printing, and then do as much of the alphabet as they could. It was funny to watch some of the students because it was like they were making up their own alphabet. Then they had to write down as much of the numbers as they could. The part they liked the most was to count out loud, as high as they could, all the numbers they know. Some of them could count to 100 and were very proud that they could. The hardest part was at the back when they had to write a story, most of them had troubles so we decided to change it to just writing down their favorite word they could spell properly.

After the break when I was with Mrs. MacDonald’s class, I stayed with them as we watched a movie on dinosaurs. I had to stay with them because the teachers had to get together and talk about a presentation they were setting up. So I stayed back and made sure they were quiet.

Tuesday May 15

Today I was in the Jk class; the first thing I did was glue on numbers on a number sheet for a project they will be doing next week. Then I had to fold and organize their dinosaur booklets. Once the class came in we did morning routine and the teacher explained to the class what I would be doing with them today. First thing they had to do was the testing sheet, this class had to write their name at the top then do as much of the alphabet they could do. Once they were finished that they could write in order the amount of numbers they know. A lot of the students had problems with the alphabet because they did not know how to write some of the letters. Then on the back they had to draw a picture, which was the best part for them. I got through 6 students before snack time.

After break I was back in Mrs. MacDonald’s room and the first thing she got me to do was mark pages in their work books. Then check mark pages they have completed in their dinosaur books. Finally I finished and it was home time so I cleaned down the desks and stacked the chairs.

Monday May 14 2007

Today when I first arrived my first task was to mark and stamp dinosaur booklets the class just started. I got to stamp the work with dinosaur stamps. There new unit is all about every dinosaur and how they use to live and what they look like. They had to draw pictures and spell out some of the names of the creatures.

Today I had to start a big project that needed to be done for next year. I had to take 2 students at a time and test them on what they have learnt this year. This sheet will be handed to the teacher next year so she can evaluate on how well the student will be doing in grade 1. The paper was divided into 4 parts; the first part was to write out the alphabet in upper and lower case letters. The second box they had to write out numbers 1 to 30. The page behind was for a story they had to write which had to be 3 sentences. Then at the end if we had time I had to get them to draw a picture.

The first two students were called and they took about a half an hour to finish, a lot of the students had difficulty with this test because it was a lot of work. It also took so much time. I only got through 6 students today but it’s ok because we have the rest of the week to finish.

Once we got back we had to rush since we were late so I helped clean up and stack the chairs and in no time they were out the door.

WEEKLY JOURNAL

I am asked my opinion when Mrs. MacDonald or the other tecahers are not sure on what to do, most of the time it is when we are going to prepare for an art of craft and they want more options and opinions on what to do. I alsways contribute my opinion when they are stuck just so that I can have a word in for what we are working on. Most of the time they take my opinions and do use them which makes me feel good since I know they like what I have to say.

The things that make me want to become a teacher is the interaction with the children. I like working with them and helping them with their work, when the children respect me (which they do all the time) I feel more perfessional and can really see myself becoming a teacher one day.

My supervisor has talked to me about a career in this field when I asked her a bunch of questions, like how to get into this career. I asked her about the schooling and costs of going to school. She gives me as much advice as she can to help me out.

Friday May 11 2007

My first job today was to mark three pages of spelling work the morning class did today. The pages had to do with the letter u so they had to write sentences involving the letter u. Then I had to mark some number work they did a while ago, and place stickers on them. After I was done I filed some pages the morning class did. I had to file their work for future evaluation. During seat time I organized the paint center. There was a bunch of dried paint art and I had to fold them up and write their name on it and separate the art from the mornings work to the afternoons work. Then I handed them out. Today was movie day and while the class made their way over I stayed back to tape in pages form a bunch of books that had fallen out. Once I was done there was still time left so I went over the next class room and watched the movie with the students. when it was time to go I cleaned up and stacked the chairs

Thursday May 10 2007

Today i was back in Mrs. MacDonalds class, the first thing she had me do was to staple the morning and afternoon classes work books together, it took me awhile because the stapler was not working but once i fixed it I finished in no time. When the students arrived they had to hurry to Library, when they went i stayed back and marked a bunch of pages the morning class did this morning. I was still working on the books when the class came back. My next task was to prepare the sentences for their printing books. I had to write D, T on the next line then T on the last, I do this to help them get started with their sentences. This did not take very long so my next job was to start the boys on painting a spring picture. They got to paint a picture about spring and summer and what happend in summer.

After break we got to play a game and i played with them, Mrs. MacDonald had some things to prepare so she let me play bungo with the class. It was fun since they have never played at school before.I called out the numbers and gave the winners their prizes.

Wednesday May 9 2007

Today I was in Mrs. McNeil’s class; the first thing I had to do was prepare the Mother’s day cards. I had to fold and cut them. Then the teacher explained to the class how the cards were going to work. First the students had to glue on the steam of the flower, next was to choose a coloured pom-pom for the middle of the flower. While they choose it I wrote their name on the back of the card and checked off that they had made a card. Then I hot glue gunned the pom-pom on the card, then the students got to choose what paint they wanted to use for the pedals. They had to dunk their thumb in the paint and do thumb prints all around the flower to make it look like petals. After they washed their thumb they had to dunk it in the green paint to make the steams. Today there was one student missing so other than her I got the whole class finished. After the break I went to Mrs. MacDonalds class where I marked pages they did today from their spelling books.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Tuesday May 8 2007

Today I was In the Jk class, when I first arrived the teacher had everything she wanted me to do all laid out. She first explained the two major things I would be working on, they all had to do with Mother’s day. The first one was planting flowers with the students, then when I was done that I had to make the front page of the Mother’s day card. Before the students arrived I had to glue on the paper pot for the flowers and also glue on three sequences for the middle of the flower.

When the students came In I explained to them how we would be planting the flowers, first they had to put some soil in the cup then place the flower in the middle and cover the roots with more soil. After all that we got to water them. They had a lot of fun planting the flower since it was something new to them. I finished with 20 minutes before snack time. The teacher had already started the Mother’s day card with them so I took over were she left off. I helped them and explained what was expected of them. Some students took a lot of time because they wanted to make it extra good for their moms. At the end of this there was still some student who had not finished a poem from last week for the Mother’s day card so I helped them finish that up as well.

After the break I headed back to Mrs. McDonalds class, there she had lots of marking for me to do. First I marked the work they did yesterday and today. Then I marked 3 pages out of their spelling books. Today I brought my camera in to take pictures of the class room for the culminating, so I did that when I was done all my work.

Monday, May 7, 2007

Monday May 7 2007

Today my first task was to glue pictures the students coloured for their moms for mothers day. I glued them into their Mothers Day cards. My next tasks was to mark work from the morning and put stickers on. Then i had to start the second part of the Mothers day crafts. Mrs. MacDonald purchased foam visors and it was the students job to decorate them. First they had to write LOVE then their name in the inside. Then decorate the outside, the students had a good time doing this since it was for their mothers. I had three more to do after break and finished before the class had story time. After we were done the art i started to mark the work the class did today. Then cleaned the class room and tables and stacked the chairs.

WEEKLY JOURNAL

This week was very productive, due to education week we had alot to get done and i feel very good about all the work i accomplished and helped to do. People at my placement like their choosen career because they love working with children and enjoy the interaction with all the people they work around. My parents think co-op is a good choice of mine because they think it is good expeience for me. They like the way i am getting outside the classroom and school and getting expeience for my future career. The high point of the week is that i had a very positive one since we got alot done. To show initiative at my workplace you cant always wait for the teacher to give you instructions, since they are busy with the students most of the time you have to take the responcibility to do things your self. When i know my supervisor is busy and i am doing nothing i go and wash down the tables and stack the chairs.

Friday May 4 2007

Today my first job was to write out the class list on another form for picture orders. This did not take me long so i got started on my next task, which was to mark 4 pags in their spelling books. There was not alot of little things for me to do since we needed time to start the mothers day craft. The first part of it was the front page. I called the students one by one and on a big card we had to paint a flower. First i had to paint their hands then they had to place it at the top of the paper, next they had to draw a steam underneath the hand print to make it look like a flower. They turned out great but we keep running out of paint so i had to run to the storage room to get more. I finished working with the kids and getting the card done in no time, soi had time before the break to do more work. My next task was to mark 6 pages for the morning class, in their spelling books. We were behind on marking the morning class work so i had alot to do.

Thursday May 3 2007

Today when i arrived there was a note for me with a couple different things on it for me to start with, then when i was done my first tasks i had to mark a put stickers on work. Both morning and afternoon classes had things for me to mark. SInce it was open house tonight i had to clean up the class room so it looked presentable. My next task was a big one, while the class headed to the french cafe in the gym i stayed back to get started.

There was three piles of work the students have done over the weeks and i had to seperate and organize each students work and group their work together. Then i had to find their spelling books and place all the work in them. After i was done that they had made name tags and i had to match the name tag to the work and glue it on the front page of the spelling books. I was concerned that i was not going to finish on time but i did my best and ended up finishing on time. Mrs. MacDonald really apprecaited this because if i had not done that she would have had to stay after school and do it her self. At the end of the day i cleaned the tables and organized all the games to make it look neat.

Wednesday May 2 2007

Today i was in Mrs. McNeil's class, my first task was to hang up a ton of work that the students have done through out the year. I had to do this for litergy week since tommorow all the parents will be coming in for open house. Once i was done the teacher needed me to run to the staff room to photocopy work the class would be doing today. It took awhile to figure out how to work it since it was different than others i have used. Once the class got to work time i started the Mother's day gift. The class were going to plant sun flower seeds, They were all excited and so was I. I called them one by one so we did not have enough time to finish, there was still about 6 more to be done. After the break when i was in Mrs. MacDonalds class the first thing i did was clean since the class decided to make a larger mess than they normally do. The class was watching a movie and my next tasks was to write in their spelling books to help get them started to write sentences. Then i had to cut and glue shapes into a different workbook for work they will be doing later on this week.

Tuesday May 1 2007

Today I was in the Jk class, my first task was to glue their spring pictures into there workbook. Once I was done that I had to put stickers on ladybug art work. Today there were a lot of little things to get finished since the teachers want everything completed for Education week when the parents come in. There were a couple students away last week so I had to help them get caught up. Two of the students still had to draw a picture of what they can do to help the earth stay beautiful; one student was away on a trip so she missed a lot I had to help her with many things besides the earth picture. She also had to do her name tag with sun flower seeds, and her symmetrical butterfly. When I was done, I had to start the second part of the Mother’ day craft. I had to get the kid’s to color in the picture of the flower and write Love . . . then their name. By the time I was done it was snack time and the class had to hurry since they had their liturgy to do. After break we made are way to the library were all the other kindergartens meet up with us, all the parents were there and the students were excited. It took awhile to get them in there right spots and get them to quiet down. While the teachers did this I started to take out more chairs for the parents since there was more than expected.

The students did a very good job, and were excited to read in front of their parents. We finished just on time for the end of the day and when we got back to the class room I helped clean up and stack the chairs.

Monday April 30 2007

Today when I first arrived Mrs. MacDonald explained to me about education week and that the liturgy was this week so all the kindergarten classes had a rehearsal, but before that the class had to do there morning routine and get a couple things out of the way. So while they were doing that I marked all the pages in the afternoon’s money booklet, this took me longer than I thought because there was so many pages. When I was done that I glued googley eyes on the plasticine ladybugs, for the morning and afternoon classes. I was done just on time to walk down with the class to the library to practice for there liturgy on Tuesday. It took awhile since the students had to read and sing songs, all the classes were hyper since they were sitting for so long they wanted to get up and move around so I had to try to keep them quiet. Once we finished there was still 15 minutes before snack time so the class did show and share and also listened to a couple songs about money. After break the students had play time and I had to start cleaning up the class room to make it look neat for education week. Then I started to organize book orders, first I had to separate them and take them out of the book, then stamp the date on each one. My next task was to clean off the tables since they made such a mess today.

Thursday April 26 2007

Today when I first arrived Mrs. MacDonald was on duty and did not leave anything for me to do so I had to wait until the bell rang, once the class came in we had to hurry to get undressed and run to the library. We did not have much time since the kindergartens and grade ones and twos had a puppet show. We finally got the students there and back just on time to make it before the show started. The show lasted for the whole period; the students were so excited and really enjoyed themselves. The show was about the alphabet and the man presenting also threw in a couple magic tricks the kids loved. It was hard to keep the children quiet since they were constantly laughing. When everyone else left my class stayed behind to take a couple pictures with the puppets. Snack time came a little late so the students had longer time which meant less class time so we had no time to waste. After break the teacher started show and share and I had to separate 20 birthday hats, this was time consuming even though it was simple because they were fragile and I had to take my time so that they would not rip. After I was done this I had to mark a money book the students have been working on. This also took awhile since I had to mark every page in it for the Am and Pm class. I don’t mind marking, I have fun with it. There was still time at the end when the class was getting ready for home time so I wrote their names on a newsletter that will be handed out next week.

Wednesday April 25 2007

Today i was in Mrs. McNeil's class, the other Jk class. I got to sit with the class and be apart of the morning routine and listen to the students stories they had to tell. Before when i first got there the teacher let me in on what they did on Tuesday. They took a side profile of the students faces with the projector and then drew their faces on a paper hangin on the wall, then cut out the structure of the face with black paper. Today it was my job to get the students to take a piece of paper and make a name tag so that i could attach it to their tracing of their face. They had to write their name and then decorate it. After they were done their morning routine i started to call the students two at a time. I also had to help the teacher hold the childrens head sturdy so that she could trace it, some of the students were away yesterday.

After the break i went back to Mrs. MacDonalds class and they had to make their way to gym, so i stayed back with a student who was still eating snack and i had acouple of projects i had to work on. The first one was change the date on sheets that will be handed out next week, they all said the wrong date so i had to write over it with marker then write their names on it so we know we had enough. I did this for the morning and afternoon class. Then i had to mark and put stickers on work they did today. After i was done all this i washed down the tables stacked the chairs and got ready for home time.

Tuesday April 24 2007

Today I was in the first Jk class, my first job was to take out the book orders. first i removed them from the book then I seperated, stamped the date, wrote their names and stapled the different book order booklets together. This was very time consuming since there was so many different things I had to do. Monday the class made symmetrical butterflies with paint, two students were away and it was my job to help them make theirs. So i let them choose which paint they wanted and on one side they painted and then folded it together. They were excited to make them since they all love using paint.

After another student who was away last week missed when the class made a colored symmetrical butterflie, so for this one he had to color and glue on buttons. Then i had to cut up magnets and glue them on the back of a Spring art the class made last week so that we can put them up on the black board.

While I was doing this the rest of the class had to seperate their piece of paper into four squares and in each draw what a plant needs; example water, sun, soil and wind. Most of the students needed help with spelling so i got to help them before i started my next task. Then after the students were done with seat work they got to have play time and one at a time i got to pull the students aside to start their Mother's day art. It is a Mother's day poem and at the top is blank so that they can place their hand print. It was my job to paint their hand and make sure they were placing their hands in the right spot. They really enjoyed this, again because it involved paint. I only had about 15 minutes to do this so i only got through 9 students but it was not a problem since i have next week to finish.

After the break i was back in Mrs. MacDonlads class. The teacher had to explain what they had to do in their money workbooks, they have to write what coin was in the picture and how much it is worth. Most of the students had problems with this so i went around and helped them out. When the class was done they had to go read a book then do show and share, One of the students was behind on his work so i sat with him and helped him finsih. Then it was home time and i stacked the chairs and got the class ready for home time.

Monday April 23 2007

Today my first task was to place stickers on both classes Spring booklets they have been working on for awhile, then mark math and spelling work the morning class finished today. Once the students came in it was my job to get them ready and hurry them for circle time. I guess because of the nice weather they were in a good mood and very hyper. When I was done all my correcting I had to trace out letters to spell out Tales of Peter Rabbit. This was time consuming because I had to search out every letter, trace it then cut out the letters, Then i had to tape the sentence up on the wall where soon the pictures and work will be hung up under it. After the break I pinned up spring work the students had done for home work, then marked the work the class did at work time. The class then had show and share and I had to find a life cycle workbook so that Mrs. MacDonald could show the class after she was done story time. By the time she was done sharing this workbook with the class it was home time and I stacked the chairs and helped get the students out the door for home.

WEEK EIGHT JOURNAL

This week went by very fast, i think it did since there was so much to do it kept me very busy. This week was a positive one since the teachers told me they really appreciated my work, it was productive since i got alot of things done. At the begining of co-op i knew that my presence was wanted but i did not realize how much they appreciate my work. Iv been told by all teachers that what i get done would have never gotten done if i wasnt there.

SInce the teachers told me about how much i help it made my week much better and more positive. The one thing i always have to remeber is that the students looks up to me and since they have to follow the rules i have to have respect and follow the rules i have been given, i find when at my co-op when you listen and do exactly what you are told there is no way you will have any problems with the teachers. It also makes the week much more productive and positive. I like helping because i love the feeling that i am making a difference wihtin the school. I hope the next week is as good as this week.

Friday April 20 2007

Today when i got there Mrs. MacDonald explained what i would be doing with the students today. The class was going to make butterflies out of play-dough, they had to coulor it red and do a black line down the middle and spots on each side. Then stick in antennas on the front and draw on eyes. Once the students went to start there seat work i started to call two students at a time to begin, the students were excited to make them and all volunteered to make theres first but of course we could only make two at a time. I got through most of the class before snack time but i had to stop since it was milk and cookie day. I had to go around to every student and open there milks and give them straws.

After the break the class had movie day and i stayed back with 4 students and finished up the butterflies. Then Mrs. MacDonald asked me to just touch them up with red marker this took me a while since i had to do everyone's but i did not mind since Mrs. MacDonald and i were talking so the time went by fast and eventually it was home time.

Thursday April 19 2007

Today when i arrived my first task was to finish decorating the butterflies, while the rest of the class did morning routine and got ready for library. When the class left i still had two more butterflies but i had to wait till the class got back. One student was not feeling well so i stayed back and we read acouple books one was about Arthur, he really enjoyed that story. When the class got back i finished the last two.

My next task was to mark a ton of homework, there was worksheets from the morning and afternoon classes, math and spelling was the main homework i marked. I also had to place stickers on all the worksheets, This was really time consuming but i finished on time.

After the break the class was going to make paper butterflies. There was 8 pieces that needed to be seperated and handed out to every seat, i did it as fast as i could since there was not much time. I went around helping the students create the craft, and after they were done they went to the circle to read and i went around and placed a pin holding the wings and body together. It was then time to get ready for home time and Mrs. MacDonald wanted me to seperate the butterflies so that she could place googley eyes on them. After i was done i stacked the chairs and cleaned up.

Wednesday April 18 2007

Today i was in Mrs. McNeil's class room, Today i got to sit with the class and participate in the afternoon routine. The class sings songs and chooses a leader for the day, they also share stories with the whole class. It was fun to just sit and listen to what they had to say, then the teacher explained what they would be working on this afternoon.

While they worked on their seat work i called two students at a time and explained what i was doing. I had to get them trace their hand and cut it out on blue paper. After i had to pin them up on a bulletine we were making for the class. This took awhile because some students had to re due it, some of the students cut of their paper fingers. I had time at the end to pin them up. There was still some students at their table doing work so i went up to acouple of them to ask if they needed help, one of the students did so i sat with her and helped her.

After break i went to help Mrs. MacDonald, the class had to do show and share and then go to gym. It was my job to start decorating the painted butterflies the class made this week. They had to make the pieces symmetrical, so they had to glue on 4 pieces of fruit loops, two green triangles and two blue squares. I also had to watch after a student who could not go to gym class since he did not finish his snack. I enjoyed this art because it was fun to make. I just ran out of green triangles when the rest of the class came back from gym and it was the end of the day, before i left i cut more green triangles up for tommorow and cleaned the room and stacked the chairs for home time.

Tuesday April 17 2007

Today i was in the Jk class, the first task i had to do was paste 4 circles on constuction paper then paste the tilte of the work in the middle. This took me awhile since i had to make so many. The class had to go down to get their pictures taken, so the Teacher wanted me to come with the class rather than stay back and finish. She wanted me to help keep them organized and quiet. The pictures only took 15 minutes and we were back to class in no time, there the teacher explained to the students what they were doing at seat work today.

While they were busy doing that i finished up what i had not done before. The students made there way to the desks to begin and i had to start a new project with them. Their names were written out large on a piece of construction paper and i had to run glue over the letters and it was the students job to stick sun flower seeds over the glue to spell out there names. The kindergarten classes are starting a new unit for spring and as a class yesterday they planted a seed, they will water it everyday and in acouple weeks they will check to see if it has grown. I got through the whole class except for the students who were not here today, this took me the whole time; seat work and play time but we finished before snack time. After break i went back to Mrs. MacDonald's class and they had story time while i did the same craft for her as i did in the last class. The craft with the circles, but i also had to draw lines in each circle so that the students could write there sentence on it. i finished just before the end of the day and helped clean up the class room and stack the chairs.

Monday April 16 2007

Today i arrived a bit early and Mrs. MacDonald Had me fold newsletters about education week coming up, this did not take me long and I finished before it was time for the students to come in. Once they came in the class did their morning routine and Mrs. MacDonald explained what they would be doing today. At seat work they had math homework to do and she explained that I would be calling two students at a time to paint a butterfly. They have to do this because they are starting a new unit for spring and summer. I got through all the students and Mrs. MacDonald was very happy since the morning class did not finish. It took the students awhile and it was very messy but we all enjoyed it. We finished just before snack time and I had to spray down the desk and clean up the mess since there was paint EVERYWHERE. After the break I cut out circles for the morning and afternoon class, I had to do this because this week they will be making all different kinds of butterflies. The class was reading a book together and I did not want to bother Mrs. MacDonald so I sprayed down the desks and stacked the chairs. There was still 15 minutes left so I went out in the hall and took down the Franklin bulletin and brought it back. Mrs. MacDonald said she really appreciated my work today since I finished so much, so overall it was a productive day.

WEEK SEVEN JOURNAL April 9-13

This week overall was really productive, i believe i helped get alot of things done. We finished some things we did not even plan on doing so i feel really good about that, it's like every day i help in the class rooms i gain an even greater amount of appreciation for the teachers. Since i now realize even more about how much work goes into the things others would think are little things. I hope next week is similar to the week becuase it went really well the students were not to loud and hyper and we got alot done. This week also went by very fast, atleast to me it did.

This week i also worked alot with the students one on one because of the art we had to do and there was alot of assistance needed with work. I enjoy when i get to help the students one on one with work because it makes me feel like an actaully teacher. It also gives me a better feel of what it will be like if i persue to be a teacher in the future. Some times at my placement it is difficult when the students done listen, overall they are really good but sometimes they have their days were they just dont want to listen. It is hard enough as it is when they are acting good to try and get everything done but when they are hyper it is even more of a challenge. I am up for the challenge though because i really enjoy what i am doing here at my placement.

Friday April 13 2007

Today I ended up arriving earlier then normal so I had more time to work on things, the first task I had to do was mark math homework the morning class had done, and put a sticker on it at the end. Mrs. MacDonald had to go on duty and there was still ten minutes till the bell rang and the students came inside so she got me to clean up the class room. When the students have play time they really make a mess of the class room so I just made it look in order and organized.

Then the students came in I started to help a student who was absent yesterday write his story about Peter rabbit, while I was doing this Mrs. MacDonald explained to the class how to do their seat work today. Today they had to do math, they had to fill in the missing numbers from one to one hundred. Then after they were done that they had to do two pages out of their work books. Once they went to the desks I started to call the children one by one to finish the Franklin art we have been working on for the week. This took awhile because there was till 13 kids that had to finish, but I was done on time and it was now time to clean up and have show and share. The students had to go home and write what they liked best about there field trip they went on a while back and draw a picture, then when they were done showing the class I hung up all their work on the bulletin board.

After break the students had movie day so the other kindergarten classes came in and watched a bunch of little shows, while they were watching movies I started to mark the two pages they worked on today, and the math work. After I was done this Mrs. MacDonald had me cut out a bunch of ladybug shapes and wings, this started to hurt because the paper was thick and I had to cut out a lot. Mrs. MacDonald said I did not have to finish it today since there was so much but I knew I could finish on time and I did. It was time for the visiting classes to go back and they got ready for home time while I stacked the chairs.

Thursday April 12 2007

Today when i arrived i had to mark two pages out of a workbook the morning class did today, before i started Mrs. MacDonald noticed that there was various pages in the workbook that she has not yet got around to doing so i marked them. Marking took me awhile because there were alot pf pages to do, while i was working on this the class went to library. I finished just on time and the class came back from library, then Mrs. MacDonald explained what they had to do at there desks today. They have read books and watched movies on Peter rabbit lately so they had to write three sentences about the rabbit. Once they started many hands raised because they needed help, i enjoyed helping them write out their stories even though it took along time. Many students had trouble sounding out the words and even coming up with a story to write, many students missed play time. Once they were done it was snack time and after snack time the class did show and share and handed in homework they completed from the night before. I got to pin up work on the bulletin board and then the class had story time while i stacked the chairs and cleaned up the class room for home time.

Wednesday April 11 2007

Today i was in Mrs.Mcniel's class the first thing she had me do was run to the storage room to get a bunch of paper. She wanted me to cut out kites and bows for the kites, This took me awhile because i had to cut out 50 kites and 200 bows. I had to cut out 200 bows because i needed 4 for each kite. I had to keep running back to the storage room because i kept running out of paper, This took me the whole period but i finished just in time for snack break. After break i went back to Mrs. MacDonalds class there they were about to head down to gym so i stayed in the class and marked a bunch of work, first i started marking three pages in the workbook they did today. I had to do the morning and afternoons books, after i was done i had to put stickers on other work for the morning and afternoon class. Once i finished the students came back from gym class and we had a bit of time to get two more Franklin arts done, once the two students were finished the rest of the class got ready for home time while i cleaned the class room and stacked the chairs.

Tuesday April 10 2007

Today I was in Mrs. Yurinsich’s class room, I arrived a bit earlier today and the first thing she had me do was glue together the front onto booklets. The booklets are for the open house that they are having at the end of the month, the booklets have a front page with their name and a picture of them which is what I had to glue together. Inside the booklets is a bunch of work the students have done over the months. Most of the work had been glued in already, but their was three crafts that had not yet been done. So it was my job to separately glue the work into the booklets, after I glued the front page on. This took me awhile but eventually I finished with a bit of time to spare before snack time, so I went to the craft table and helped some of the students make crafts, some of them even made me something one of the students made a necklace and bracelet for me (picture up top) and another student painted a picture. Then it was time for snack and I helped the students clean up and get ready for the break.

After I made my way back to Mrs. MacDonald’s class room, there she had me start to finish the rest of the Franklin art. The week before the students colored in parts of Franklin and today I called two at a time and they started to cut out the pieces. After they were done I helped them glue it onto a toilet paper role covered in green paper which resembled Franklin’s body. Since this took them awhile we only got through 10 students but I have the rest of the week to finish.

Before the end of the day I got to test one of the students, every student has a paper of numbers and letters and you have to see if they know what they are and at the end you add up all the ones they got right. One of the students was away when the rest did it so I got to test him.

WEEK SIX JOURNAL April 2-5

When something is difficult, I try to deal with it my self instead of always calling for someone to help. Not always asking for help helps me to learn to work conflitcs out myself. Sometimes a student will act out and many times I know I will have to ask Mrs. MacDonald for help or the other teachers but sometimes I can deal with it myself and work it out with the student what is bothering them. There had been manytimes were I am succesful with this, like one time a student was crying and I sat with them and we talked about what was bothering them and at the end the student was laughing and everything was good.

I believe me being there can take some stress away from the teacher because I can deal with things they just might not have time for. At my co-op I mark and sometimes am wokring by myself when the rest of the class Is with the teacher I don’t mind doing work by myself but the best part is when I get involved with the students like at work time when they need help, I like helping them because I also learn more ways and tricks of getting them to do it them self, because I find when they want “help” they want you to do it for them so I try to find new ways that they can do it themselves and still learn while I help them. Next week, I hope to help them with their work like I did this week since I enjoy it so much, instead of doing so much seat work myself (even though I don’t mind doing it).

Thursday April 5 2007

Today was really cold so i had to help the students take off all their winter gear, once the students were ready and sitting at the circle we had to get their library books ready and organize who had theirs and who forgot thiers.Once we were ready we went to library and this took awhile because some of the students had to figure out which books they already had out, also when the other students are still trying to choose books the students who are done start to get bored and get restless and I have to keep them quiet and in line. When we got back to the classroom Mrs. MacDonald explained their seat work, today they had to write two sentences about Easter and draw a picture. Many students needed help with idea about what to write and how to write it out. This took a long time because some students were really struggling, but I had fun helping them and all the students finished before the bell for snack time. Before snack time I had to hand out the drinks to the table for cookie and milk day. It was my job like every cookie and milk day to open the drinks and place a straw in the drinks.

After the break I cleaned the room and stacked the chairs. Since the students did not have much time for play time because seat work took them so long they had the choice to go be apart of movie day or stay in the class and have more play time. Half the class wanted to go watch the movie so I went over with them and had to stay with them to make sure they acted good, some of the girls during the Easter movie got bored so I took them back to class to play.

Finally the movie was over and the rest of the students and I made our way back to the room. When we got back Mrs. MacDonald had work out for me to finish I had to stamp the date on the page they worked on in their writing books today. I also had to mark work they did this week. Then at the end of the day the day care students made their way out and left behind some hats and mitts so I had to run them over to them day care, this took a long time because I had to keep going back and forth because we kept finding new things in the class room, finally they got all their gear.

Wednesday April 4 2007

Today I was in Mrs. McNeill’s class; the first thing I started on was cutting out the Easter baskets that the students colored in on Monday. After I was done cutting them out I glued them onto a yellow Easter card, this took me awhile because I had to organize all the pieces of the card and the names to make sure they were being glued onto the right card. Then on a separate piece of paper the students wrote an Easter poem and I had to glue them into the inside of the card.

Once I was done there was still enough time before snack that I could start the other part that needed to be done. I had to first go to the office to use the cutter and cut up tissue paper, there were three different colors and it was my job to hot glue gun them onto the front of the Easter card. This took me awhile because I wanted it to look really good and at the end it did. Then break came and I was not done so I asked Mrs. McNeill if I could come back after break to finish the last part. So instead of heading back to Mrs. MacDonald’s class right away, I finished up the cards. The last thing I had to do was hot glue gun jelly beans in to the basket to make it look like there were Easter eggs. This did not take me to long but at the end the cards looked very good.

So when I was done I got back to Mrs. MacDonald’s class and I had to mark work the morning and afternoon class did today. When I was finished I stacked the chairs and got the class ready for home time.

Tuesday April 3 2007

Today i was in the Jk class, the first task i had to do was name and staple book orders that will be handed out to the class later in the week. Once i was done this the students had work at there desk and some kids wanted help so i sat with them and worked on it. Once they finished the seat work that was assigned they had play time, during play time i got to call two students at a time and we died Easter eggs that would go in the Easter baskets they made. This was exciting because the kids were really enjoying dying them, and are excited for Easter to come. This took the rest of the class because we got everyones egg died. Then it was break and after break i made my way back to Mrs. MacDonalds class. There i organized, stapled and named a project that will be handed out to the students later on. After i finished i cleaned the room and stacked the chairs and the children were getting ready for home time.

Monday April 2 2007

Today i had to leave co-op early so to make up for lost time i arrived early. When i first arrived Mrs. MacDonald had a bunch of news letters that needed to be handed out, so to make sure everyone got one i wrote all their names on the papers. After i finished i glued tails onto the easter baskets they made last week, this took me awhile because i had to do the morning and afternoon classes. Then it was my job to help a student who was away to start the easter basket. By the time he was done, the rest of the class started math work back at the desks, alot of students had trouble with this worksheet so i went around and helped anyone who was struggling. Then when the class had play time i marker a numerous amount of work from the morning and afternoon students, even though i do plenty of marking i enjoy it. By the time i was done this i had to leave.

WEEK FIVE JOURNAL March 26-29

Good time management is important at my placement because there are alot of things that need to be done, and if you dont finish preparing certain arts or work the students will be with out work or things to do. It is very important to keep them busy with work to do otherwise they can get out of control and loud very fast.To have good time management at my placement, I do everything my supervisors tell me to do and try not to become distracted so that i can get the job done. Overall this was a good week because the students were very loud and crazy last week so compared to last week they were considered quiet. The students were very excited for their trip on Friday so thats all they talked about. I was suppose to go to their trip with them but then i found out that i had to come to class so the some of the students were upset that i was not going to come. The part of the job I like best is working with the kids, it is fun because the kids always have alot of stories to tell and enjoy talking with me. The expierence is also a good part, i now know what to expect while working with kids.

Thursday March 29 2007

Today i was in Mrs.MacDonalds classroom, but she was not here today so the class had a supply. It was my job to help the supply with the students who need extra care. The first thing i helped with was getting the students in and ready to go to library. The class only had 10 minutes in library so it was a challenge to get there on time and get the students books back and checked out, but we did it on time. Then we headed back to class and the students had a rhyme worksheet they had to complete before playtime, alot of the students had troubles with the worksheet so i sat and helped them. Then we got the students ready for snack time, after snack time the class went into the class beside them and they watched a movie, Its the Easter beagal charlie brown. They usually have movie day on Fridays but Friday they are going on a Feild trip. During home time, i was giving instructions to send one of the students who goes to day care to the book center, just to keep him out of trouble. The student did not like this and started to cry so i went over and talked to him to make him better, then we read two books together and he was happy and no longer crying.

Wednesday March 28 2007

Today I was in Mrs.McNeils class, the other Jk class. The first thing I had to do was hot glue gun paperclips onto old art work that they would be taking home, I was doing this because after I placed string through the paperclips so that the students could take them home and hang them up. Once I was done this, the students were at their desks begining a rainbow craft. When they finished it was my job to whole punch it and put string through the wholes so that they could also hang this up. After break I made my way back to Mrs.MacDonalds class, there I had to staple a bunch of Franklin art together(a craft they will be starting next week). After I was done I helped a student finsh work he missed. during this the class had gym and i stayed back and cleaned up the class room for the end of the day.

Tuesday March 27 2007

Today like every Tuesday i was helping out in one of the Jk class rooms. At first i had to staple a bunch of news letters together, after i was done i started to name and organize the Easter baskets the students would be decorating today. Right when the students got in we started. I called two students at a time to start decorating. They had the choice to color, glue on pictures or draw their own. This took awhile because i had to go through the whole class. After break i made my way back to Mrs. MacDonalds class, the first thing i helped with was help 5 students who did not finish an easter art finsh it. After this the students were getting ready for home time and i started to take down old winter art the students did awhile ago, that was still hanging on the wall.

Monday March 26 2007

Today when i arrived i had to finish the Easter cards i had started last week, this took me awhile because there was alot of cutting and pasting to do. I worked on this while the students did work at there tables and had play time. after taking one of the kids to library to get a new book i started to work on a Franklin craft the students would be finishing at the end of the week. During working on this, some students that had been away had not done the easter bunny art. So it was my job to explain what to do and help them with cutting and glueing. In no time it was home time and i stacked the chairs, cleaned up and got the students ready for home.

WEEK FOUR JOURNAL March 19-23

When my work is finished there is always something else to be done, keeping busy is important and time fly’s by very fast. Some of the students are very good at listening but some have many problems with it. It was frustrating when Mrs. MacDonald wanted me to hurry a student up to get to the circle and the student would not listen to me, I felt invisible but eventually he got to the circle. My supervisor and colleagues are all very supportive and try to make it as enjoyable for me as possible. They make sure the students respect me and treat me like a fellow teacher. It works because all the students treat me well and call me by my last name instead of Tanya. I feel like a good team member when I am working with all the teachers and help them get things done. The teachers love my help because I get things done for them, and now they have more time to work on other important things. It’s been a month since I began co-op and now that I have a good feel of how it works behind scenes I really hope that one day I can become a teacher.

Friday March 23 2007

Today I arrived a bit earlier and had the chance to start organizing and stamping the date onto future book orders, I got through most of them but I had to stop because the students were going to start their Easter art, so we had to explain how to do it. It was my job to glue certain things on the art just so that they wouldn’t make a mess. I was at the art table and once the students were done doing what they had to do at the tables they lined up and came to me. Once I was done I finished up the rest of the book orders, this took me to break time but before that I had to get the drinks and cookies ready (milk and cookie day). After the break I started to glue and cut out a new art the students will be working on next week.

Thursday March 22 2007

The first thing I did was take down the old picture bulletin, it had the work the children had done all on Clifford. Now they are starting Franklin the Turtle so I made a new picture collage of Franklin. After I was done it was time for the students to have Library so we made are way done there. It was my job to make sure the students were quiet and in line once they were done getting a book. When we got back the students worked on a worksheet at their desks while I cut out Pieces for a Easter art they were going to work on, on Friday. This took me awhile so I hope the students enjoy making the art. For everyday at the end of the day, when my work is finished I must help the children get ready for home time.

Wednesday March 21 2007

Today when I arrived Mrs. McNeil was not in her class room so I made my way to Mrs. MacDonald’s room. She had paper for me to cut up, because the students needed it for a project they were doing today. After the bell rang I went back to Mrs. McNeil’s class and while the students did their morning routine I started to work on Easter baskets for the morning and afternoon classes. This took me the whole period right up until snack time which meant I made my way back to Mrs. MacDonald’s room. The students had gym and story time while I had to organize an assignment that they would be working on in the future; I also marked work they had done yesterday. After this we got the students ready for home time.

WEEK THREE JOURNAL March 5- March 8

Getting to co-op on time is not a problem at all becuase i have enough time to get ready and eat at my home. Since i live so close to wear i do co-op i can walk whenever, and be on time. I have not been late once becuae i make sure i am ready on time each day.I learned that the students want you to do everything for them, ie when they are writting in their spelling books, but it is important that you teach them how to do it and let them do it themselves. Otherwise they will not learn it. They also dont pay attention when you do it for them but when you make them do it themselves they learn and remember how to do it for next time. some days are so busy we have to skip certain rountines we do because we need to get other things done, when we skip usual routines you can see how routines are important to them because they always point it out that we missed something.

Thursday March 8 2007

Today went by very fast, first the students had liabrary. the student who broke his toes had to sit out so we read a book together while the rest of the class picked their books outs. once the students got back they had to write a story about Clifford the big red dog in their spelling books. so i got to go around and help them write it out. When the students had play time i marked and placed stickers on work. After i finished marking i handed out the drinks and cookies ( Today was milk and cookie day). since today was the last day of school for the students because of March break we had to clean up the class room, so it was my job to wash down the tables stack the chairs, and i had to re-organize the toys becuase it was a mess and they were everywhere. I also had to wash the black board. After this Mrs.MacDonald had a box of books she needed me to organize and place them wear they should go. while i did this the class watched a movie and by the end of the movie it was home time.

Wednesday March 7 2007

Today I was in another Jk class, when I first got their job was to hang up the St. Patrick’s Day ladders they had made up on the art board. Once I finished the students got settled at their spots and did the morning routine while the teacher asked me to organize a messy part of the class room, this took me awhile but I finally finished. The students were at the tables doing work; I got to help them with it. When they were done they had play time and I had to cut out pieces and come up with new ideas for art time for the craft center, by the time I had finished the students were done play time and ready for snack time. After the break like usual I made my way to back to Mrs. MacDonald’s class room, they had been gluing all afternoon and had made a mess so it was my job to clean up. I also washed the tables and stacked the chairs. While I was doing this the students had gym time and two students were unable to participate so I stayed back with them and read books, I also marked work that I had not finished from Tuesday. At the end of the day I had to hand back previous work I had marked. By the time I got them into everyone’s backpack the bell went and it was home time.

Tuesday March 6 2007

Today since it is Tuesday I was in the Jk class, when I arrived the teacher had a table full of things she needed me to finish. Some of it was finishing two absent students St. Patrick’s Day art that they had not been able to finish on time, another thing I had to do was cut out many different pieces for a craft they will be working on at the end of the week. Once the kids got settled they did their morning routine which included songs they sang and dancing, the students were excited to show me what they had learnt. Once this was over the kids had to go to there tables and do a worksheet, they had to cut out pieces and color them and place them in order of smallest to largest. Some of the students had trouble with the work so I got to go around and give them a hand. Once it was their play time I had to take three students aside because they had not yet finished work from the previous day so I got to teach them what they had to do and help them with it. They finished in no time and I got to play games with them for the rest of play time (which was only 10 minutes). One of the girls was having trouble with using the computer, so I got to play computer games with her. After snack time I made my way back to Mrs. MacDonald’s class but she was not here today, she had informed me on Monday she would not be present Tuesday and told me that she would leave a bin full of work that needed to be marked and stickerd, She also asked me to help get the children ready at home time so that the supply would not have to do it all by herself. I did just what I was asked to do and got the kids ready and out the door.

Week 3 Monday March 5 2007

Shamrocks . . .
Right when I arrived today Mrs. MacDonald informed me about the St. Patrick day cup art they had started last week started to come undone, so it was my job to re-glue all of the paper that had started to come off. Once the students had made their way to the circle I started to call two kids at a time to finish the second part of the St. Patrick day cup art. The students had to glue the shamrocks to a Popsicle stick and stick it in the cup beside the poem. It took me awhile to get through the whole class but when I was working on this the rest of the class worked on a worksheet and also had to cut out a large shamrock for an art they will be doing this week. Then after I finished the art with the students they had playtime and I was given work to do by myself. I had to cut out different accessories for the art with the shamrock so it would be done on time for the students to make the craft. After I was done this it was time for them to have snack time, while the students were doing this I went to the photocopier room, there they had a large paper cutter for me. I had to cut a large amount of paper up for the paint center in the class room. After snack time I got the chance to read to the class two stories before it was home time, the students really enjoyed the two books. After this the students had to start getting ready for home time.
